FLAG: The flag is a burgee, with three red and two white lateral stripes; at the staff is a blue triangular field covered with 17 stars (signifying Ohio's order of entry into the Union) grouped around a red disk superimposed on a white circular "O." OFFICIAL SEAL: In the foreground are a sheaf of wheat and a sheaf of 17 arrows; behind, a sun rises over a mountain range, indicating that Ohio is the 1st state west of the Alleghenies. Surrounding the scene are the words "The Great Seal of the State of Ohio." ANIMAL: White-tailed deer. BIRD: Cardinal. INSECT: Ladybug. REPTILE: Black racer snake. FLOWER: Scarlet carnation. The American
Institute of Floral Designers was established in 1965 by a small group of
leading floral designers dedicated to recognizing and promoting the art of
floral design as a professional career. Today, it is the floral industry's
leading non-profit organization committed to establishing and maintaining higher
standards in professional floral design. With over 1,200 members worldwide, AIFD
and its members are in the forefront of the industry in presenting educational

Accredited Membership in AIFD is
selective. To be accredited, a floral designer must fulfill rigid qualifications
and demonstrate advanced professional ability. Members are distinguished by the
letters "AIFD" used as an addendum to their name. To maintain accreditation,
they must meet certain continuing education requirements.

international design competition, AIFD members are found in virtually every

On August 18, 1910, fifteen American retail florists agreed to exchange orders
for out-of-town deliveries. Originally called "Florists' Telegraph Delivery",
FTD was the world's first flowers-by-wire service. Fifty-five years later, FTD
expanded to include international transactions. The company was renamed
"Florists Transworld Delivery" to reflect its growing worldwide presence. In
1914, FTD adopted the classic figure of Mercury as its official logo. With
